FAQs

Who is gender-affirming communication therapy for?

Gender-affirming communication therapy (GACT) is for anyone who does not feel comfortable in their current form of communication. Whether someone is currently in medical transition, social transition, or has transitioned years ago, GACT can address the needs someone may have regarding their voice and general communication style. Additionally, those who are gender non-conforming may be uncomfortable with their voice in its current state. From teenagers to elderly adults, GACT can be of service.

Currently we serve those who live in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas.

Does insurance cover this type of therapy?

Unfortunately, it is rare for insurance providers to fund GACT in our service area at this time. In some cases, insurance providers will approve pre-authorization of services, but this is a rare occurrence. We suggest contacting your insurance provider prior to therapy if insurance coverage is something you’re wanting to pursue.

In some instances, clients are able to use Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) in order to pay for services.

What is the cost for services?

Because the vast majority of our services will require private pay, we do everything we can to keep our prices as low as possible. We offer a free consultation to discuss everything before any commitment is made as well. Prices are subject to change:

Initial Evaluation: $125

Individual Hour Long Full GACT / Accent Training sessions: $90

Individual Half-Hour Long Isolated GACT / Accent Training sessions: $45

Incremental follow up meetings are provided at the completion of a therapy program for free.

How long does a typical therapy program last?

The average GACT program is completed in about 8-10 weeks, with continued self-led practice after the completion of a therapy program. Everyone is unique, therefore, some individuals may require fewer sessions and some may request more.

What is the difference between Full Gender-Affirming Communication Therapy (GACT) and Isolated GACT?

The short answer is only cost and time of sessions. The content of both the Full GACT and the Isolated GACT is exactly the same but given at a different pace. Full GACT is an in depth therapy program that targets all areas of communication, including voice pitch, resonance, body language, articulation, intonation and conversational techniques presented in hour long sessions. Isolated GACT targets the exact same areas but in HALF-hour sessions. The hour long sessions cost slightly more, but allow for more weekly one-on-one time, typically resulting in fewer amount of weeks in therapy. The half-hour sessions have a more limited amount of time that may require more therapy weeks in total to get a similar benefit but are cheaper.

What can I expect from Accent Training?

Accent training is designed to ease the burden of intelligibility for non-native American English speakers communicating in the United States. Accent training is not designed to completely replace a native accent with a General American English accent, but instead is designed to lessen the barriers to communication due to poor intelligibility. We believe that every accent is beautiful and is a part of you. However, we also understand communicating in your non-native language can make it difficult to communicate easily.

*This is NOT an English language learning course. You should be conversational to fluent in English before pursuing accent training.
